Editing Sharp White

Editing our film 'Sharp White' we used i movie as a group we all contributed to the editing but shannon did most of the editing as she knew how to use and work  imovie. It was my first time using i movie and I had never done any editing before so it was quite tricky getting the hang of it. Shannon completed the open sequence. I contributed to the editing by putting a blur effect of the three strangers.
We used sound effects in our film we used a heart beat sound effect. We decided to use a heart beat sound effect because  it built up tension within the film.

Another sound effect we used was 'Rain Heavy Thunder' this was used because it was raining

The script for Sharp White

Sharp White Script

The only talking in Sharp White was the phone call, this is how it went...

Jasmine- 999 whats your emergency?

Luke- *Breathing heavily*

Jasmine- 999 whats your emergency?

Luke- She's dead! She's dead!

Jasmine- Sir, where are you?

Luke- Help me, please help me, I think their still here!

*phone gets cut*

For the recording of the film we used Shannon's phone. Shannon has an app called Blackberry voice recorder on her phone where she recorder the voice over then it was transferred to I movie once we were happy with phone call we put it on the start of over film, Shannon formatted the voice clip to make it compatible .

This the app we used to record the voice over clip using the blackberry app voice recorder.

Choosing Our Title

This is a picture of us brain storming names for our film.

When it came to choosing the title for our film we thought it would be best to have a group discussion, this included us writing up a mind map and brainstorming ideas, in the end all us decided on the name 'Sharp White' for our film. First of all me wrote down a mind map and brain stormed names for what we were going to call our film, in the end we   decided we were going to use 'Sharp White'. The masks we use in the film a white the name of the title connotes the film because the killers are sharp as well because they're very sneaky by how they get to the victim.

This is the title of our film Sharp White, this has been taken out of our film.

We did group a discussion on what roles we had, when we were going to film, where we were going film and what we were going to contribute to the planning and organisation.

This is evidence from what we had written down for our planning.

Shot list, Location list, Costumes

Shot List

The range of shots we will be using are as follow;
  • Long shot
  • Medium shot
  • Close up
  • Extreme close up
  • Over the shoulder shot

Location List
The film will be filmed inside and outside of Jasmine's house. We will use her drive, her front garden, hallway, kitchen, living room and also Jasmines bedroom.
Costumes
As our killers are 'strangers' we borrowed plain white masks from the drama department in school. The strangers were all dressed very similar to each over, all of them were dressed casual, dressed like normal people and they are not dressed like 'typical murderers' which makes it a physiological effect. The strangers (Me,Keri,Jasmine) were dressed in checkered shirts. The school girl (Shannon) was wearing uniform because she had just arrived home from school, then Luke will wear his uniform as he find Shannon the next day on his way for them to walk to school.

Location

For our film we will be filming in this location.

This location is where the strangers watch shannon enter in and out of the car from the end of the long street.

Costumes

These are the costumes of what the strangers were wearing in our film. All 3 of the strangers are wearing a checked shirt.

These are the masks that the strangers wear in the film.

Secret Window Analysis

We were asked to analyse the film The Secret Window

The secret window

The opening sequence is taken form 'The Secret Window'. It is directed by David Koepp and Starring Johnny Depp who plays Mort Rainey in the film. The Secret Window  is a psychological thriller.
It begins with the sound of windscreen wipers, which we hear before we know what's going on. The wind screen wipers are non-digetic sound initially but become a different sound as soon as the film starts. This creates repetitive and rather sinister atmosphere the start. The open sets enigma codes for you to solve because you don't know what's going to happen.
The opening shot is a close up of Depp's face. His face looks very serious and looks like he is thinking about something. He is dresses very casual, he is wearing a black hat, grey scarf and a black coat the colours of his clothes may represent darkness. His face is effective because it shows him thinking about something.
When Depp is in the car there is a point of view shot of him, we see a close up of his facial features. When we hear someone talking in the car but we can only see Depp's face, it makes it like someone is in the car with him but we can only see Depp's face. Then there is a zoom out shot, that's when we realize that it's his thoughts that we can hear, which is telling him what to do. This scene is very psychological because it makes the audience believe that it's someone else is in the car with him, when it fact it is only just him.
This scene is set at night time, in darkness, in cold and wintery weather; I know this because it is snow on the ground when we see the motel in the distance. The motel sign is blood red this may indicate danger and hazard.
When he drives and turns the car around back to the motel it is very lit up inside the reception where he goes and gets a key to open one of the rooms of the motel. He gets back into his car and drives to the motel room then there is a full body shot of Depp as he gets out of the car and goes towards the hotel room.

Connotation and Denotation

In the lesson we had to analyse a still picture of a thriller film of your chose. The aim of the lesson was to how to analyse a still picture properly using the correct words and how to use when doing so.

Then next lesson we had learnt was term Connotation and Denotation

Connotation- The audience’s interpretation of a sign, or an association or idea suggested by a sign. For example the colour red has connotations of love and danger.

Denotation- it is an everyday of an obvious meaning of a sign of danger.

After we had learnt the meanings for these words and how to use them we then had a task to analyse a still picture of Johnny Depp finding out the Connotations and Denotations of the image of Depp.
